Assignment 2-Annie Liebovitz

Annie Liebovitz is an American portrait photographer. She started working as a staff photographer with the launch of Rolling Stone magazine in 1970. Working for this magazine made her more conscious of what was being done in magazine and helped her to develop her graphic and conceptual photographic side. She worked for this magazine as the chief photographer until 1983. After that, she started working on personal project at the same time as working for other magazines. Her personal work is the most important to her, her most intimate.

She admires the work of Richard Avedon, Henri-Cartier Bresson, Irving Penn and Robert Frank.

She took pictures of famous celebrities such as The Rolling Stones, Jonh Lennon & Yoko Ono, Demi Moore, Lance Armstrong, Johnny Depp, Scarlett Johansson etc. She is the last person to have photographed Jonh Lennon, he was shot 5 hours later. Most of his photographs were highly publicized but she does not want to be called a ''celebrity photographer''.

''I hate the word “celebrity.” I’ve always been more interested in what people do than who they are, and I hope that my photographs reflect that. I have the opportunity to work with people who are the best actors, and writers, and athletes, and danc- ers—a broad spectrum. I feel like I’m photographing people who matter, in one way or another. I’m photographing my time.'' -Liebovitz

Her work I admire the most is her series of Disney characters. I really like the modern aspect she put into her photographs and the quality of the images. I like the fairytale atmosphere, the colors, composition and story behind each pictures.
